If you are considering taking on the responsibility of owning a pet, one of the many factors you should take into consideration is how much of an environmental impact the pet you choose will have. A cat probably isn't the best choice for someone who does not like pets indoors as the cat will most likely spend its time hunting wildlife outside. A large dog such as a German Shepherd isn't going to be as eco-friendly as a Chihuaha, not to mention much more expensive to upkeep.
